Lisa D'Amico
Growing up in New York, she filled endless streams of writing pads with her
narrative cartoons and illustrations while directing musical theater in her parents' garage. She received her first art award
at the age of 5 for her crayon rendering of 'Clown at the Circus'. At the age of 15, she received her first high school detention
for her spray paint rendering of 'School Principal is a Jerk'.
Her paintings and prints reflect a fascination with
color and nature; from this interest her work has evolved to explore the relations between imagination and reality. She combines
an eclectic painting style with primitive printing techniques and mixed media.
In addition to art, Lisa has also strived for academic excellence and has earned
several advanced degrees including a PhD which she uses in tandem with her artistic talent. She has continued throughout her
life to receive artistic recognition and to share her love of art through teaching.
Nowadays, she lives with a chronic
illness and her ability to breathe is solely sustained by her use of paint, paper and the consumption of chocolate ice cream
(with sprinkles).
